Evaluation Question 3: What have you learnt from audience feedback?
Throughout our coursework we have received feedback from many different platforms, this included social networking sites, youtube, and questionnaires that was given to our target audience. This feedback was important as it allowed us to know where we could of improved our video and what we successfully included that our audience enjoyed.
Our target audience was mainly females, with an age range of 15-20, we chose this audience as we believed these were the people who would be able to relate to our short film more due to the all female character cast and because our film was located in a school which is where many of our target audience have spent most of their time more recently than others.
We gained face-face feedback from a focus group of people who were our target audience. We asked them questions which consisted of:
-What was the strongest area of our video?
-What was the weakest area of our video?
-Was the storyline understandable?
-What improvements could we make to the video?
-Describe our video in 3 words?
We allowed our focus group to watch our short film and then answer these questions straight after to give us a more detailed list of improvements and strongest parts of our video. Even though our target audience was mainly girls we decided to get feedback from males as well to gather a larger proportion of feedback, also to notify us whether makes would watch and enjoy our film.
The first question we asked was what our audience thought was the strongest area of our video. The focus group noted that they liked our protagonist's acting, our music, dialogue and our range of camera shots. This was good feedback as these elements are the main aspects that make a film good, this ensured us that our audience were constantly engrossed to our film as they found these three aspects enjoyable to watch.
Our second question was what our audience thought was the weakest part of our video, these answers included the fact we didn't include any filming based on her background and it was therefore harder for our target audience to understand why she was going through the problems at school that she was. There was also more than one comment suggesting we didn't include our supporting actresses as much as we could of and they therefore didn't understand there role in our short film. This feedback allowed us to know what we should improve on if we were to create another short film.
Our third question asked was our storyline understandable. Everyone thought our storyline was understandable which ensured us that our target audience found it clear and easy to follow what was happening in our film. This is a very good conclusion as if our audience didn't understand our storyline our short film wouldn't have been a success.
After stating positive feedback we then asked our audience what improvements they felt we could make to our short film. Majority people said we should make our supporting actresses appear more in the film. We didn't give these actresses a big role to play in our film based on the fact we decided we wanted our film to be based around our protagonist, and her thoughts and feelings through her high school experience only. We did this hoping our audience would sympathise with our character more and hopefully this would help young people understand how bullying affects people, aiming to stop bullying occurring in the future. Our second piece of feedback consisted of showing more of our protagonist's background, we didn't include much of her background as we wanted to make our target audience able to relate to our short film more by keeping the location in a high school only.
Our final question asked our focus group to describe our video in three words. Emotional was a word used more than once to describe our film which ensured we successfully made our audience sympathise with our protagonist. Other descriptions included it was tense, heart warming, serious and inspirational. This shows we completed our aim which was to have our audience emotionally engrossed to our film, and shows they took our film seriously as we didn't want anyone to take our storyline light heatedly.
These feedback allowed us to know what was successful about our film and what we could of improved on if we was to create another short film.
Another platform we recieved audience feedback from was from our post questionnaire, below shows the results from our post questionnaire:
Our final way of recieving feedback from our audience was by our Youtube video which allows the public to post feedback comments on the video and like or dislike it:
